How can I detect pet urine on my new multi colored carpet?

I can't tell if my dog is still peeing on my carpet. The carpet is multi colored and I see shadows but can't tell if they are urine stains or not. I tried a black light but nothing showed. Is my dog finally useing the doggie door? My little dog went on the old carpet and past away. I then got new carpet and now I can't tell if my big dog has taken over the little dogs duties. Help!
