Large Brown

I need help identifying a large brown flying insect in my NE Ohio yard that looks like a mosquito but isn't.?

It is about the size of a half-dollar. It has long legs that dangle below it and wispy wings like a dragonfly. It is not a dragonfly. It is way bigger than a mosquito and doesn't bite. They started swarming around the very end of September and are ALL OVER! I thought they were Canadian Soldiers, but my husband says they are not.

Sounds like a crane fly. They are big but harmless.
