clean a genuine leather belt?

so i bought a belt from american eagle that states its a genuine leather belt and whenever i wear it, it wipes off black stuff (ink?) all over my clothes. how do i stop it from doing this? because at work my belt shows and it shows all the black stains on my paints left from my belt. is it just something that wears off after time? or something i can clean?
