How do I dye Faux leather?

I bought a secondhand faux leather set..the previous owner tried to dye it but it didn't work..... the dye just rubbs off.....i would like to try it myself......just wondering if it needs to be treated before its dyed......and since it has dye on it now that rubs off.....will that affect my attempt at dyeing the sofa and 2 chairs...what product works best?..any help would be appreciated..thanks

Well clean off all surfaces, then prep with proper primer, then you can paint. Faux leather is vinyl in nature which can be painted with upholstery paint. You can find it at an auto parts store or restoration auto business.
