how to get blue dye from jeans off of leather?
I have a light beige colored leather couch, and I just noticed that there is blue dye from jeans on the couch. I tried all purpose natural cleaner and it doesn't work good enough.
It's also an older stain, not sure if that has much to do with it but any products out there that can get this blue dye off but not ruin the leather? Thanks!
Please do not use a Magic eraser on this problem. It will only remove the dye by removing the top finish on the leather.
You have what is known as dye transfer. Some dyes are very strong especially some jean dye and they have redyed the leather.
Most over the counter leather cleaners will not be strong enough to deal with this - the longer the dye remains on the surface of the leather the further it will move into the finishes on the leather and once this has happened it becomes more difficult to get out.
Using solvents etc may be needed but these will damage the finish on the leather and these processes are best left to a qualified technician who will be able to recolour/refinish as necessary.
(do not try solvents or DIY colouring kits yourself as these generally do not work)
Generally for dye transfer the following link may help

Using a leather protector is always a good idea on leather and particularly on pale colours that suffer from these type of problems and should have been recommended when you bought the sofa.
Using household products such as WD40, hairspray, bleach, rubbing alcohol, baby wipes, solvents etc should be avoided as there is no guarantee that they will not do more damage which will then be much more costly to fix.
Hope this helps
